A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Unguentum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. unguento: an ointment or unguent, a soft greasy or viscous substance used as an ointment or for lubrication. A soothing or healing salve with application to wounds, sores, etc., to soothe irritations or inflamations; a lotion, cream, salve, emollient (i.e. for softening the skin);

- [Usnea barbata] Miscetur idem balanino unguento & aliis quae unguendo sunt, ob spissandi vires, quas habet (Dill.) The same is mixed with an unguent prepared from balsam, and with others which are for annointing [i.e. with an oily substance], due to the properties for making [the body] firm] which it has.

Acopum,-i (s.n.II) (sc. medicamentum or unguentum), a soothing salve (Lewis & Short); = akopon,-i (s.n.II): Gk., the application (of various kinds) for relief of pain, also akopos (s.f.II); = anagyros,-i (s.f.II), q.v.

Magma,-atis (s.n.III), abl. sg. magmate, q.v., a thick unguent or ointment.

Unctio,-onis (s.f.III), abl. sg. unctione: an ointment, unguent;

- unctio thermantica (adj.A), an ointment that warms.

Unctum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. uncto: an ointment.

Unguedo,-inis (s.f.III), abl. sg. unguedine: ointment, salve, unguent.
